Conclave scores better than the musical in the land of Oz.
The phenomenon Wicked will it invade France after having overwhelmed the United States since the Thanksgiving weekend? It's still a little early to say, but after this first day in theaters, the answer is rather no.
Wicked indeed dominates the ranking, as expected. But the musical comedy in the land of Oz did not have a tidal wave. It currently has 87,000 admissions in France, largely driven by its numerous previews (which accounts for almost a third of this total). Wicked is very far from the historical score of Moana 2 last week (Best first day of 2024 with 456,000 entries). The film adapted from the Broadway hit – clearly less anchored in French culture than American – is very far from other 2024 hits like Vice-Versa 2, The Count of Monte Cristo Or A little extra thing (all well over 100,000 for their first day).
Proof that the start of Wicked is good, without being spectacular, the best average of this Wednesday is to the credit of Conclave. The excellent thriller at the Vatican has so far posted 37,000 admissions (including 10,000 AVP), an average of 63 spectators per copy (compared to 54 for Wicked).
On the podium, we will note that The Children after themwith the revelation Paul Kircher, gets off to a good start. The drama of Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma has been seen by 33,000 curious people (including 15,000 AVP) so far.
