The duo was filming The Transporter when the first part was released. They finally met again more than 20 years later for Fast X.
On the occasion of the release of the tenth opus of Fast and Furious, First asked his director, Louis Leterrierto classify all the episodes of the saga. The very first episode, directed by Rob Cohen and released in 2001 at the cinema, is well placed within this top.
The director explains that he has a memorable memory of the first time he saw this blockbuster carried by Vin Diesel and Paul Walker: he was then in the middle of preparing for the Carrier with Jason Stathaman action film to watch again this Thursday evening on TFX. It was also in the company of the actor that he discovered Fast and Furious.
It was long before the British actor joined the franchise: the Stath' arrived in the shoes of Deckard Shaw in episode 6 directed by Justin Lin, in 2013. A part located much lower down in the list of Leterrier, who again, justifies this choice.
“Fast and Furious, I like it a lot because it's the first film
Fast and that he defined the concept, he says. Well, obviously, there are downsides. You see very clearly the scriptwriting facilities and the influence of Point Breakbut it still holds up today. It's a pure urban film, with stunts 'real' and car races. Whatever pleases me! And then I admit that there is a little madeleine side of Proust when I see him again, because I systematically think back to the moment when I discovered him in theaters, with Jason Statham at my side… This memory is inseparable of the movie in my mind. (…) In Fast 6there is also the arrival of Jason Statham, who is great. Besides, maybe I'm downgrading 6 and 8 a little because I was slightly jealous of Jason! At the time I was busy on Hulk And Clash of the Titansbut I loved it so much Fast and Furious that I was a little green to see him join the franchise. (Laughs.)”
Why Jason Statham abandoned The Transporter
Finally, Louis Leterrier found the actor to Fast X. The opportunity for the duo to shoot impressive action scenes again. They should also team up again on the sequel, the director having already announced his intention to turn number 11. Or even the 12th? Recently, Vin Diesel has mentioned the possibility of cutting his final episode into a trilogy.
