“I can’t believe I’m still doing this job!” exclaims the actor… before admitting to several big lies told in interviews.

Soon back in SF comedy Mickey 17by Bong Joon-ho, Robert Pattinson was questioned about his entire career by the New York Times Style Magazine. The opportunity to speak honestly… and even to reveal some lies told during previous interviews!

Famous since his 17th birthday and his appearance as Cédric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), the British actor explains that he is amazed to still be making films almost 20 years later.

“I could very well retire after Batman”he said of Matt Reeves' planned trilogy. After the successful 2022 blockbuster, a sequel is due to be released in 2026, then one more final episode in the following years. “You know, I never thought I would continue doing this job for so long when I got my first acting salary,” he continues. “I can’t believe I’m still doing this job!”

After the box of five parts of Twilighthe took care to sign for electrical projects, from Cosmopolis from David Cronenberg (2014) to High Life by Claire Denis (2018) through the Good Times the Safdie brothers (2017) or Tenet by Christopher Nolan (2020). Waiting for find this filmmaker for his new secret project, Pattinson discusses the difference between his incarnation of Bruce Wayne/Batman and that of his predecessors, from Michael Keaton to Ben Affleck.

“I had this idea in mind for Bruce: until now, we had always seen him as a playboy, but what if he was socially inept this time, what if he was agoraphobic? The line from the film: 'If I can't make a difference, if I can't make an impact, I don't care what happens to me'marked me. Because personally, I too was aware very early on that no one was really interested in me.”

The Batman on the cover of Première: “This Batman practically lives in the gutter” [exclu]

Hence this taste for provocation, in his first interviews: if the questions seemed too uninteresting to him, he admits to having a tendency to say anything. Like this story of a clown he saw die in an explosion when he was a child, told during the promotion of Twilight 4.

“If you look at my face, I say that without any hesitation, he confesses today. Nor in my voice. I respond while saying to myself internally: 'No but seriously, are you possessed or something?' Because at the time, all I was asked was: 'How do you deal with fame?'

During other interviews which bored him, for example, he assured that he had been “female hand mannequin”having filmed a scatophile scene for Twilight who has “luckily cut” or even having invited his stalker to dinner, so that she could realize how uninteresting he was on a daily basis. It was all completely false, he admitted ten years later.

Robert Pattinson's interview in Première: “The hysteria was at its height during Remember Me”

Robert Pattinson finally talks about how his relationship with acting in Hollywood changed when he became a producer. Having missed several auditions when I was younger (“Eragon's casting director thought I was on drugs”he recalls for example, laughing), he decided after some success to move into production in 2010.

“Actually, in this system, when you're just an actor, you basically only meet directors who want to see you play an English prince. Coming to the other side, I got to meet more different people and I “I had something more to offer them. Ultimately, it also helped me better understand what I was doing as an actor.”
