Invited in season 3 to face Ross, the Italian actress today admits to having had doubts.

She is one of the rare guest stars of Friends to have played his own role in the series. Isabella Rossellini appeared in 1996 during season 3, making Ross go crazy, who had put her in his famous (plasticized) list of actresses with whom he had the right to sleep… before replacing her with another.

Isabella Rossellini tells Entertainment Weekly today that she was very surprised to be recruited by Friends at the time, especially to play his own role. She was afraid that no one would know who she was:

“I was surprised because at the time – maybe still today, but it was very true at the time – there weren't many recognized foreign actors or actresses in America! So I was very surprised that Friends invited me even more to play my own role. And then during the filming, I saw that they recognized me and knew my name.

Ingrid Bergman's daughter confesses to having been very surprised: “Vraiment? Am I so famous that I can play myself? Like a star in Friends? It was really great and it was a pleasure to work with them.”

It should be remembered that in 1996, Isabella Rossellini was the former muse of David Lynch, who notably made her appear in Blue Velvet (1986) then Sailor and Lula (1990). In Hollywood, she also came out of Death suits you so well (1992) and Wyatt Earp (1994) opposite Kevin Costner.
