The director of Dune really hated the Ewoks.

No, Denis Villeneuve is not going to leave the planet Arrakis to go to Coruscant. For one simple reason: the saga Star Wars doesn't interest him more than that. Anyway, not anymore.

During The Town podcast, the Canadian filmmaker admits to having been fascinated by the first two films Star Wars (Episode IV and V). In particular, he looked The Empire Strikes Back on numerous occasions as a child, fascinated by the famous ending leaving Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) mutilated, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) frozen and Darth Vader (David Prowse/James Earl Jones) triumphant. A shock that would be difficult to reproduce in the films of the saga from now on. Particularly because of Episode VI: Return of the Jedi which changed everything.

Warner Bros.

“Everything went off the rails in 1983 with Return of the Jediexplain Denis Villeneuve who remembers that, when he was younger, he was very annoyed by the film:

“I was about 15 years old. My best friend and I really wanted to take a taxi to Los Angeles to talk to George Lucas! We were so angry. Even today, the Ewoks…no kidding. Star Wars became a comedy for children with Return of the Jedi And it was not for us, Star Wars then crystallized in its own mythology, very dogmatic. There were no more surprises. I don't dream of making a Star Wars movie, honestly. It's too codified.”

Instead, Denis Villeneuve going to do Dune 3which will be called The Messi of Dune. And one saga is enough for him: “Honestly, in a lifetime, if you make a series of three films, it's enough. After Dune, I would like to return to original content or books that I love.”
