“I think it's a miraculous adaptation…” That's all!
Denis Villeneuve will he win the Oscar for Best Director for Dune 2 ? In any case, it has strong support! After Steven Spielbergwho said that this second part was “one of the most brilliant science fiction films I have ever seen”it's the turn of Christopher Nolan to proclaim his love for the film.
During a conference by the Canadian director – which Nolan moderated – the last winner of the statuette (for Oppenheimer) outright spoke of a “miraculous adaptation work“. He detailed:
“I watched this second part of Dune and I think it's a miraculous work of adaptation. To succeed in taking this second half of the book and making it an incredible conclusion to the story is very powerful. I I really wonder how you could do that…”
And Christopher Nolan goes further in his analysis, explaining that he was amazed by the treatment of Paul Atréides: “I'm also amazed by Paul, or Usul, Muad'Dib, Lisan al Gaib… How many fucking names can you give to a character and hope that people will be able to follow? There is a serious question behind my thoughts”, insists the English filmmaker. “Because most adaptations are about condensing and simplifying things. Watching both films, especially the second, I felt like it was a bit more of an act of exploration, an exploration of complications and coming to terms with them , as well as building a world beyond even what is described in the book!”
Dune 2 brought in some $715 million in revenue worldwide and will certainly be one of the favorites at the next Oscars. Denis Villeneuve in mind.
