Multiple power outages and damages were reported Wednesday evening after the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of the Pittsburgh region. The National Weather Service issued the warning after 5 p.m. Wednesday. The storm left thousands without power and caused multiple cleanup efforts throughout the county. As of 7 p.m., over 20,000 Duquesne Light customers were reported to be without power. The power company released a statement, saying in part: “DLC crews are working as safely and quickly as possible to restore power to customers. We are currently assessing the damage throughout our area. Individual outages will be updated below as more information becomes available.”West Penn Power reported over 15,000 customers were without power as of 6 p.m., with 1,700 reported in Delmont. The outages also came with reports of damage due to high winds and rain.The Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company posted on Facebook Wednesday evening, alerting drivers of a road closure after a tree brought down utility lines. The post said, “Marshall Drive in Moon Township currently closed due to a large tree and power lines that are down. Utilities have been notified.” In Monroeville, a fallen tree took out power lines near a CVS and Primanti’s, causing the roadway to be partially shut down. The severe thunderstorm warning ended after 6 p.m.
