Mason Thames will play Harold in the flesh, in this remake of the great animated classic.
While Disney is adapting all of its legendary tales into live-action films one by one, it is the turn of Dreamworks and Universal to do the same thing with Dragons. The director Dean DeBlois transforms its animated saga into a great spectacle filmed in live action and brings to life the epic adventures of Hiccup and Toothless, thanks to impressive special effects, as evidenced by the first official trailer, released online today (see below).
The creator of the franchise, three times nominated for an Oscar, reimagines his Dragons himself and it's the young Mason Thames (revealed in the series For All Mankind) who will be the budding viking, Harold, facing Gerard Butler in the shoes of his father, the leader of the clan, Stoick the Vast. Nico Parkercrossed in The Last of Uswill be Astrid.
Nick FrostJulian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, Peter Serafinowicz and Murray McArthur complete the cast.
“On the wild island of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup stands out. The inventive but neglected son of leader Stoick the Vast, Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he bonds with friendship with Toothless, a fearsome Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons and calls into question the very foundations of Viking society…” details the synopsis.
Inspired by Cressida Cowell's New York Times best-selling book series, the franchise Dragons by DreamWorks Animation peaks at $1.6 billion in worldwide box office revenue over three films.
The live-action version of Dragons will be released in cinemas in France on June 11, 2025.
