“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin said Tuesday she was surprised by Vice President Kamala Harris' botched response to her question last month about what she would have done differently than President Biden over of his sole mandate.
Harris' now-infamous response that “nothing comes to mind” that she would have done differently than her boss stunned political observers, given her struggle to distance herself from the unpopular Biden administration during the campaign electoral. Several experts and reports have highlighted this moment as a turning point in Harris' campaign.
Asked by “The View” producer Brian Teta during the show's “Behind the Table” podcast whether she “personally cost Kamala Harris the election with her question,” Hostin said she would have liked have that much power, because she would have “knocked him down”. ” in the other direction.
“I followed because I was surprised by the answer. Look, I think it wasn't so much the question, but rather the answer,” Hostin said. “The reason I called was because it wasn't a trick question. It really was a layup.”

Hostin, a staunch Harris supporter who predicted she would win in a “blowout,” said she gave Harris the opportunity to speak to people who were concerned about the vice president being an “agent of change.”
“I thought she would then say that I would build on the victories that we had, and I had a long list of victories in mind, and she didn't answer that way, she said that nothing came to mind,” Hostin said, noting that it showed how “loyal” she was to President Biden, who withdrew from the race in July and endorsed his vice president for office. Democratic nomination.
Hostin said she wasn't going to comment on whether Harris gave a right or wrong answer.
“I will just say that I was surprised by the response because it was a question that really could have benefited him, it was a question that could have been a game-changer,” she said.

Democratic strategist James Carville said Harris' campaign failure could be reduced to this moment on “The View.”
“I think if this campaign comes down to one moment, we are in a country that is 65% on the wrong track,” he said on “The Bulwark Podcast.” “The country wants something different. And he was asked, as is so often the case, in a friendly audience, on 'The View,' 'How would you be different from Biden?' That's the only question you're supposed to answer, okay? It's the one everyone wants to know the answer to!
The Trump campaign was reportedly pleased with Harris' response, and the clip quickly became the subject of national advertisements.
