Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said former President Donald Trump was considering giving him “control” of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Kennedy said Trump “promised” him to “monitor” the “public health agencies, which are HHS and its sub-agencies, the CDC, the FDA, the NIH and a few others,” as well as the USDA.

He made the comments in a video clip that circulated online.

The New York Times reported that Kennedy noted via text message that the video was a recording of an internal conversation with campaign workers regarding efforts to get Trump out of the vote.

“I am ready to help him rid the public health agencies of their pervasive conflicts and corruption and restore their tradition of evidence-based scientific reference,” Kennedy said in a statement, according to the media outlet.

The positions of HHS Secretary and USDA Secretary are both cabinet-level positions.

“No formal decisions regarding Cabinet and personnel have been made, however, President Trump has said he will work alongside passionate voices like RFK Jr. to make America healthy again by providing families safe food and ending the chronic disease epidemic affecting our children,'” Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.

“President Trump will also create a special presidential commission of independent minds and charge it with investigating the causes of the decades-long increase in chronic disease,” she added.
