Shannon Reynolds said her 16-year-old daughter was sexually harassed while headed home from school on a PRT bus Monday, and when she went to the driver for help, he had her get off the bus.”She texted me before her phone died, ‘Oh my God, I can cry right now’,” said Reynolds.Reynolds said she was at work and didn’t see the text for 10 minutes, and by that time, couldn’t reach her daughter.Reynolds said her daughter was dropped off near the Zone 1 police station, where the girl reported what happened, and Reynolds said an officer drove her home. That’s when Reynolds said she finally spoke with her daughter.”She was hysterical. She was crying. I couldn’t even understand most of the words coming out of her mouth,” said Reynolds. Reynolds said her daughter rides four PRT buses daily to get from their North Side home to her high school, Sci-Tech in Oakland. Reynolds said she filed a report with PRT police and a complaint due to the bus driver’s actions. She also reached out to Pittsburgh Public Schools.Reynolds said she wants changes in place to protect all students who are assigned to ride public transportation to school.”Not that it’s specifically the district’s fault or Port Authority, but them together, there needs to be some type of help, protection for these kids,” said Reynolds.Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 also reached out to PRT and PPS. Response from Pittsburgh Public Schools:This kind of incident would fall under Port Authority Police jurisdiction. They have access to cameras on the buses and can investigate the report. The family is encouraged to file a police report with the PRT Police. The parent should also inform her child’s school. so the school staff is aware and can provide student assistance program supports to the student. The District has approximately 4,500 students who use PRT. Our Director of Transportation has reached out to the parent related to her reportResponse from PRT:Port Authority police are investigating this incident, which would include reviewing surveillance footage from the vehicle. All of our operators (and every PRT employee for that matter) are trained in the subject of Human Trafficking and the importance of reporting incidents both on and near their vehicles. Whether the operator in this situation followed their training has yet to be determined, but will certainly be part of the investigation. If it is determined the operator did not follow the established policies and procedures laid out in their training, then PRT could take disciplinary action.
