Terrifier 3 breaks records for a film prohibited for those under 18!

In France and around the world, the “extreme film attention” label seems to have an incentive effect and attract crowds.

Obviously, he remains far from the scores of Vice-Versa 2 (1.6 billion) or Deadpool & Wolverine (1.3 billion), the biggest hits of the year 2024 at the cinema. Nevertheless, Terrify 3 has nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to profitability!

Produced for only $2 million, The Bloody Clown Massacre has already grossed $57 million at the worldwide box office. A record recipe for a horror film released with the “unrated” label across the Atlantic. Even more restrictive than the R-Rated designation, this classification means that the film simply could not be validated by the Motion Picture Association (MPA), the committee of Hollywood studios in charge of the classification of films at the cinema. Too violent, too brutal, it was not even presented and is therefore completely reserved for an adult and informed audience.

Which clearly did not hinder the success of the film. The director and screenwriter Damien Leone rejoices on the networks: “Terrify 3 passes the 50 million mark at the worldwide box office and officially becomes the biggest success for an unrated film, and even surpasses some of the most successful NC-17 films.

And for good reason, it seems that the sinister classification of Terrify 3 had an incentive effect. Fans of the genre wanted to see this horrible feature film. In France, it is one of the rare horror films to be released under the “prohibited for under 18s” label. And Terrify 3 already totals 450,000 spectators at the national box office!

The fact remains that it is still a long way from the absolute record for us: in 1974, The Exorcist also was prohibited for under 18s when it was released. It had totaled 5.4 million entries!
