After causing a sensation at the Venice Film Festival, this drama inspired by William Burroughs is preparing for release.
A few months later Challengersthe duo Luca Guadagnino And Justin Kuritzkes is back for Queer. The Italian director and the American screenwriter this time direct Daniel Craig in the shoes of Lee, a writer in Mexico among the American expatriate students, in the middle of the 1940s.
The character is inspired by William Burroughs in his semi-autobiographical novel of the same title. “While he wanders aimlessly in the city's gay bars, he will see his destiny change the day he crosses paths with young Allerton. He sets his sights on the young man with whom he falls obsessively in love…”
Allerton would thus be inspired by Adelbert Lewis Marker (1930-1998), a former soldier in the American navy. It will be played by Drew Starkeyrevealed in the series Outer Banks. Lesley Manville And Jason Schwartzman complete the cast.
Guadagnino, director of Call Me By your Namedescribe Queer as “a very personal film about the inevitable quest to be recognized in the eyes of others“.
Queer will be released in cinemas in November in the United States. No date yet in France.
