The two horrific sagas are clearly part of the studio's priorities. Next step? Badlands, with Elle Fanning, in cinemas in 2025.
To celebrate the great summer of 20th Century Studios (Deapool & Wolverine, Alien: Romulus, The Curse: The Origin And Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes found their audience), the president of the studio recently bought by Disney, Steve Asbelltakes stock in The Hollywood Reporter. Among the projects announced for 2025, 2026, 2027, etc., there are notably new Aliens And Predator. Before the creatures meet again on the big screen? Here are the details.
Alien VS Predator, Speed 3, Miss Marple, Master and Commander: Disney-Fox projects
With 350 million dollars raised during the summer, Alien: Romulus will have a sequel, he announces straight away:
“We are working on a sequel idea at the moment. We have not yet completely concluded the deal with Fede (Alvarez)but it is in progress. And he’s the one who gave us the starting point.”
It details a little, but watch out for spoilersif you haven't seen Romulus:
“The two survivors, Rain and Andy, played by Cailee Spaeny and David Johnson, were realat the heart of the first film, and as a result we inevitably ask ourselves: 'Wow! Where will the public want to find these two?' We know there will be aliens again and good horror scenes, but we also fell for them and we want to know their story.”
Badlands instead of Prey 2
Another announcement concerning this horrific universe: the next one Predator will be released in cinemas, and not directly on Hulu/Disney+, unlike Prey.
“Yes, we do have one Predator planned, he confirms. And yes, it will indeed be released in the cinema. I'll tell you this in a very simple way: when Prey was successful, Dan (Trachtenberg) came back to us to say that he did not want to make any Prey 2. 'Okay, but what would you like to do, then?' And there, he offered us lots of crazy ideas. And really cool. We kept two, and both will be released next year.
There's one project I can't talk about, but the other is a movie Predator in live action with Elle Fanningwhich has just finished filming in New Zealand. It will be released next year. Its title is Badlandsand it will be a sci-fi film, but different from what people expect. And it will be great. Completely crazy. But we trust Dan. The second film is also directed by him, and we planned things differently for this one.”
Animation? A broadcast on Hulu? For now, details are being kept secret
“I can say that it will be released before the one planned in cinemas, but that's all, I can't reveal too much at the moment.”
A Alien vs. Predator ?
Now that the two sagas are successful again, the idea of bringing the dangerous creatures together is being discussed. “but not in the way you have in mind, warns Asbell. That's the thing: we don't want to do it again Alien vs. Predator as in the past. If we go into this, it will have to be organic, logical in relation to these two franchises, and which develops characters that we already like… So, yes. Maybe we will. But not at the moment. We’re not ready to launch this yet.”
