San Franciscco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that star wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. is currently hospitalized with pneumonia and fluid in his lungs after attempting to play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
There is currently no timetable for Samuel's return as the team is focused on a full recovery.
Samuel was scheduled to play in Sunday's Super Bowl LVIII rematch against the Chiefs at Levi's Stadium, but he was spotted on the sideline with an oxygen mask around his face while suffering from an illness.

He was also spotted suffering some sort of pain during warm-ups, despite having his pads and jersey on while on the sideline, ready to go before the oxygen mask was worn.
Then, after standing on the sidelines, Samuel ran to the locker room and was eventually knocked out for the rest of the game, wearing street clothes on the sidelines with a towel wrapped around his neck.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Samuel woke up Sunday not feeling well, even though he tried to push himself to play with his team.

But things quickly developed and Samuel had to be hospitalized for treatment where, after a battery of tests, he was found to have pneumonia and fluid in his lungs.
This situation with Samuel adds to a plethora of injury issues for the 49ers offense this year, as Brandon Aiyuk, San Francisco's wide receiver finally extended after a long break this offseason in the contract department, is out for the remainder of the season after suffering several injuries. torn ligaments in right knee following a hit by the Chiefs.
And while Christian McCaffrey's Achilles tendinitis saga continues in San Francisco, tight end George Kittle is also considered day-to-day with a sprained foot.
Given the injury situation, the 49ers would love to have Samuel, a dynamic offensive weapon who can play both receiver and running back, healthy as soon as possible.
Samuel is in his sixth season with the 49ers, and although McCaffrey has generally been in the spotlight since being traded to the Bay Area by the Carolina Panthers, Samuel has been an indispensable piece for the offense of Shanahan given his ability to do just about anything asked of him. .
Samuel has accumulated 335 receiving yards and 51 rushing yards with two total touchdowns through his first six games this season. He is coming off a campaign in which he rushed for over 1,000 yards from scrimmage with 12 total touchdowns to help the 49ers reach the Super Bowl.
