Arthur Fleck… What if this man from the movie “Joker” (2019), who awakened as the Joker and shocked society, met Batman?

In the first film, Joker, Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman, appears as a child. Arthur has developed a one-sided grudge against Thomas, Bruce's father.

Speaking of Batman, although he has many struggles of his own, the general image is that he is a very wealthy man, has everything he can't have, and is popular with women. Arthur, on the other hand, is a “have-not.” He has no money, suffers from a disease that causes him to laugh out loud, and is ridiculed by society, barely making ends meet.

In many Batman myths, Batman and the Joker are two sides of the same coin. The Joker goes on a number of rampages and challenges Batman to battle, and at one point even points out, “You wouldn't exist without me.'' So, how would Arthur feel if Batman existed in the world Arthur lives in in the movie “Joker''? Here's what director Todd Phillips told IGN:

“I think Arthur would be in awe of Batman, the alpha male. Really. I think Arthur would be able to look up and worship[him]. I'm fascinated by a man who has no leisure. Murray Franklin, who appeared in the first movie, was a man with a lot of leisure. He probably admired his co-stars as a man with a lot of leisure. That's what Arthur himself could never have been: a man of leisure.''

Phillips refers to the “alpha male” as the strongest male in a herd, who plays a leadership role. Murray Franklin is a popular talk show host played by Robert De Niro. Arthur has repeatedly fantasized about appearing on the show and being recognized by Murray. Eventually, his wish comes true and he appears as a guest on the show, but when Arthur realizes that he is being made fun of, he shoots Murray dead…

Arthur, who was never able to become a “comfortable man,” would certainly admire Batman if he existed, and his one-sided admiration would grow, and at some point he might have gotten mad and gone berserk. Since there is a young Bruce Wayne in that world, there should be a future where he meets Batman as the years pass. What is the possibility? Let's think about it again after watching the sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux'', which will be released in Japan on October 11, 2024.
