In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Nick Fury appears in multiple films and is a key character who calls for the formation of the Avengers. Samuel L. Jackson, who played the role, was initially surprised that he was suddenly offered a contract to appear in nine films.

In an interview with US GQ, he was approached by Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige during the MCU's early days, saying, “I would like to offer you a role in nine movies.'' Jackson was shocked, saying, “How long do I have to stay alive to do nine movies?''

In Hollywood movies, it is common for it to take several years to produce a single movie. He must have had a hunch that if he was to appear in nine movies, he would be tied up for the next few decades.

In fact, most of Nick Fury's appearances have been cameos, including 2008's Iron Man, 2010's Iron Man 2, 2011's Thor and Captain America: The First. Jackson appeared in rapid succession, including “The Avengers'' and 2012's “The Avengers.'' As an example of his sense of speed, Jackson says, “I had no idea that I was planning to make nine movies in two and a half years.'' Regarding the series of crossover appearances, Jackson said, “That's crazy! I've used up my contract. '' he recalled.

He was initially offered nine films, but in reality he has appeared in 12 films, including the most recent “Marvels” (2023), and the drama series “Secret Invasion” (2023). He also made a guest appearance on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and did voice acting on “What If…?”

Jackson says his favorite scene is the scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) where he is surrounded by police and special forces while driving a vehicle. He seems to like the way he calmly reads the situation and thinks about his next move, saying, “It's very Nick Fury-like.''

However, Jackson seems to be enjoying playing the role of Fury. He is tired of being influenced by the results of awards races such as the Academy Awards, and once said, “It would be more fun to be Nick Fury or Mace Windu and have a lightsaber.''

In the future, the MCU will have major crossover films such as “Avengers: Doomsday.'' It looks like there's going to be a battle that requires all the heroes on the planet, so Nick Fury will surely play an active role as well.
