After Fragile, Emma Benestan directed her first genre film, between bullfight and love story.

Here, bulls populate dreams. Animalthe second feature film ofEmma Benestan after the romantic comedy Fragileis a pure genre film. As we have seen, this category is doing very well at the moment in France, but the least we can say is that the script of the film selected at the Critics' Week of the last Cannes Film Festival is surprising, even disconcern. In the Camargue, a young woman, played by Oulaya Amamra (already the headliner of Fragile), begins to make a name for himself in the world of bullfighting. But, from being around bulls, she will see them everywhere until she becomes sick.

Revealed in Divine in 2016 and winner of the César for Most Promising Actress, Oulaya Amamra finds here a role that matches her dramatic potential. In the trailer forAnimalwe see her debut in an arena and take part in a game which we understand to be a test to select the best bullfighter -and bullfighter. She will find a place for herself in this almost exclusively male world and from then on become a local star. Which the Camargue, is sublimated by the creation of Emma Benestan, herself from the region. The film veers into science fiction at this point, where imaginary bulls – or not – swarm, to the point of injuring the young torera in her flesh.

Animale will be released in cinemas on November 27. Trailer:
