Join Telegram ChannelThe phantom content of the Gotham City Police Department prequel drama series, which was planned as a spin-off of the DC movie “THE BATMAN” but fell through, has been revealed. Terence Winter, who was working on the script, spoke to The Playlist.
This project is set in the Gotham City Police Department in the world of “THE BATMAN'' and depicts a police officer. After this was shelved, “THE PENGUIN'', which is currently being distributed, was given the official go-ahead and is being produced.
According to Winter, the concept behind the Gotham PD series was to recreate the feel of 1970s cop dramas, including “Sidney Lumet's 1981 crime cop drama “The Prince of the City.'' It's like the Gotham City Police Department version of that.''
“I wanted to have that '70s feel. It's about a modern-day third-generation Gotham police officer, and Gotham is widely corrupt. It's set in the present day, and the guy thinks he's on the wrong side. It's about a police station and this guy who seems to exist in this world, but we've never met him before.
At some point during the project, The Batman director Matt Reeves became reluctant, resulting in Winter and others leaving the project. After that, a person who worked on “TOKYO VICE'' was appointed as his successor, but things did not go well. Eventually, the project itself was shelved, and “THE PENGUIN'' was moved forward in its place.
Wintour seemed to have mixed feelings, saying, “Sometimes we get a good creative match, and sometimes we don't.'' I started thinking, “I should do this,'' and then I thought, “I guess it's not going to work.'' “Sometimes I feel like that,'' he said, indicating that he didn't have a very good hunch.
Regarding “The Penguin,'' who appeared in his place, Winter supported him, saying, “I think it's great.'' The first episode of this drama has gotten off to a good start with 5.3 million viewers in four days after its distribution began on September 19, 2024.
