Tens of thousands of illegal immigrants sexually assaulted and convicted of murder in the United States, ICE data shows

Tens of thousands of illegal immigrants accused of sex crimes and homicide could be walking free on the streets, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) data provided to lawmakers this week.

The agency provided data to Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, on national data on illegal immigrants facing criminal charges or convictions. The data, dating from July 2024, is broken down by those in detention and those not – the so-called non-detained register. The Non-Detained Registry includes illegal immigrants who have been subject to final orders of removal or who are in removal proceedings but are not detained in ICE custody. There are currently over 7 million people on this list.

The data indicates that among those not in custody, there are 425,431 convicted felons and 222,141 people facing criminal charges.

UNHOLDING ICE FILE EXPLODES TO 7.4M CASES

These include 62,231 people convicted of assault, 14,301 of burglary, 56,533 of drugs and 13,099 of homicide. Another 2,521 were convicted of kidnapping and 15,811 of sexual assault.

There are another 1,845 people charged with homicide, 42,915 people charged with assault, 3,266 people charged with burglary and 4,250 people charged with assault.

“As of July 21, 2024, there were 662,566 non-citizens with criminal histories on ICE’s national docket – 13,099 criminally convicted MURDERS!” Gonzales said in a statement. “Americans deserve to be SAFE in our own communities.”

In a press release accompanying the latter, ICE attacks so-called “sanctuary” cities, which refuse to cooperate with federal law enforcement to deport criminal illegal immigrants.

“ICE recognizes that some jurisdictions are concerned that cooperation with federal immigration officials will erode trust in immigrant communities and make it more difficult for local law enforcement to serve these populations. The Biden administration has been criticized for releasing many migrants arriving at the U.S. border into the interior, which coincided with a sharp drop in expulsions as it focused on prioritizing public safety and threats to national security. There were 142,580 referrals in FY23, a considerable increase from 72,177 in FY22 and 59,011 in FY21, but still down from highs of 267,258 under the Trump administration of FY19.

At the same time, the number of illegal immigrants on the non-detained list increased from 3.7 million in fiscal year 2021 to nearly 4.8 million in fiscal year 2022, then to more than 7 million in fiscal year 2023.

Republicans have blamed the border crisis on administration policies, including rolling back Trump policies that limited “catch and release.”

In a statement released Saturday, DHS said the data had been “misinterpreted.”

“The data goes back several decades; it includes individuals who entered the country in the last 40 years or more, and whose vast majority of custody decisions were made well before this administration,” a spokesperson said. word. “This also includes many individuals who are under the jurisdiction of or currently incarcerated by federal, state or local law enforcement partners.”

The administration has said it needs more funding and reforms from Congress to fix a “broken” immigration system, including through a bipartisan bill introduced in the Senate this year – which was rejected by the Republicans. He also pointed to a sharp decline in arrivals since President Biden signed an executive order limiting asylum at the border in June. DHS also said it has deported more than 180,000 non-citizens with criminal convictions since January 2021.

“Despite the challenges of operating within a broken immigration system, and in the face of enormous workloads and persistently limited funding, DHS continues to enforce the law to secure our borders,” said the DHS in its letter.

That bill would increase the number of ICE detention beds, but critics of the administration have pointed to numbers showing that not all beds are currently occupied.

The release of the data comes as Vice President Kamala Harris travels to Arizona's southern border to try to blunt former President Trump's criticism of the issue and renew her call for a draft of bipartisan border legislation. The conservatives were not convinced by this visit.

“Border Czar Kamala Harris has had almost four years to protect America and failed,” RJ Hauman, president of the National Immigration Center for Enforcement (NICE), told Fox News Digital in response to the data. “It allows tens of thousands of murderers and rapists to roam free. It puts criminals first and your safety and that of your family last.”
