“The films were fantastic, leave them alone!” replies Richard Harris' son, who does not understand why Warner Bros. is readapting JK Rowling's books.
Casting has recently opened for the new series Harry Potterdeveloped by Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod (Succession), still for Warner Bros. Planned for the Max platform from 2026, it should adapt JK Rowling's novels more faithfully, at the rate of one season per volume.
No actor has been officially announced yet, but there is one who has already made it known that he does not want to be part of the adventure: Jared Harris. The son of Richard Harriswho played Albus Dumbledore in the first two games before his death in 2002, was interviewed by The Independent on the possibility of taking over his father's role.
“No thanks, answers the actor of Mad Men, Chernobyl And Foundation, cash. Plus, why are they doing this? I don't understand. The movies were fantastic. Leave them alone.”
During this interview, he still ends up saying that “thanks to the serial format, there will undoubtedly be more storytelling” in this new adaptation.
In 2016, when the same studio was preparing the return of Albus in Fantastic Beasts, Jared Harris had already been mentioned to succeed his father, and Michael Gambon.
“Warner Bros is clearly looking for the ideal performerhe explained to theEvening Standard. But no one has offered me anything official, it hasn't come up to me and I don't think it will. I've noticed that when fans want a particular actor to be cast in a big movie, the studio bosses don't choose the person in question. They don't like being forced and in the end, these fan campaigns almost never bear fruit.”
Comments that contrast with the enthusiasm of Gary Oldman, who has played Sirius Black in the films since The Prisoner of Azkabanwho recently revealed that he would like to play Albus: “Maybe I could play Dumbledore, in a few years?”
