Tim Burton takes the lead at the box office for new releases ahead of Daniel Auteuil's The Wire and The Trial of the Dog.

His return had been expected for almost 40 years. So of course, he was a hit: Beetlejuice 2 got off to a flying start in French cinemas. The sequel to the 1988 classic has already racked up nearly 200,000 admissions (including previews), including 87,000 on Wednesday alone. A successful first day, with an average of 94 spectators per screen (831 in total). For comparison, Dumbothe previous film by Tim Burtonhad attracted 84,500 spectators for its first day (in 2019) and had finished with 2.3 million admissions. Beetlejuice 2 is hopeful of doing better. It should be remembered that the first part had accumulated, at the time, 628,458 admissions in France.

The French film

Behind Michael Keaton and his troop, it is Daniel Auteuil who holds the rope. The Thread holds the right end and takes second place with more than 36,000 curious people who came on Wednesday to discover this legal thriller (with previews). In love with my wife, the last film directed by Daniel Auteuilhad 300,000 admissions (in 2018).

The dog trial completes the podium of new releases of the week. The first feature film by Laetitia Dosch is further away, with 12,000 spectators (with previews) in a smaller park (318 copies). It should be noted that the competition was tough to make a place in the cinemas, since 12 films (!) were released on Wednesday in theaters. Among them, we will note the timid beginnings of the animated film Silex and The City, derived from the series, with 1500 tickets sold and a very small average of 7 spectators per copy.
