Sensation of the last Sundance Festival, Your Monster has its first trailer, between fairy tale, romance and wacky comedy. Written and directed by Caroline Lindy, whose first film it is, it features Melissa Barrera (Scream And Abigail, notably) in the role of a young woman in tears trying to stop thinking about her ex-boyfriend. One day, she discovers in her closet… a monster.
“Your Monster is the story of soft-spoken actress Laura Franco (Barrera), who is dumped by her longtime boyfriend (Edmund Donovan) while recovering from surgery and retreats to her childhood home to recuperate. Her future looks bleak, and insult is added to injury when Laura discovers her ex is directing a musical she helped him develop. But from these life upheavals emerges a monster (Tommy Dewey) with whom she finds a connection, encouraging Laura to follow her dreams, open her heart and fall in love with her inner rage.”says the official synopsis.
In the trailer, we understand that the actress of Scream is in the midst of a post-breakup depression. Ice cream and tears galore, a friend serving as her confidante, we think we are dealing with a classic romantic comedy. But, according to Sundance – the ghotta of indie films – the film is much more than that: New York is sublime, the actresses, notably Melissa Barrera, are against type. Some even speak of a sort of new Beauty and the Beasta very free rereading of the myth, seen from 2024. Furthermore, the troupe of actors, still unknown, seem to magnify Caroline Lindy's film.
Your Monster will be released on October 25 in the United States and does not yet have a date in France.
