“I never want to wear that fucking suit again!” The actor was exhausted from filming the series Max.

“I don't know, man…” When asked about doing a second season of The Penguin, Colin Farrell breaks down. Not because he doesn't like the role or playing at DC. But because this costume is very heavy to wear. Literally and literally.

“Don't get me wrong, I loved doing this show. But it got a little boring. I admit that by the end, I was complaining all the time.” says the Irish star in aan interview with Total Film.

I was bitching to anyone who would listen that I couldn't wait for it to be over. While trying to remind them that I had “grumpy gratitude.” Because I'm really honored to be reprising this character, having grown up watching Burgess Meredith. [qui a joué le rôle dans la série télévisée des années 60]then Danny DeVito [dans le film de Tim Burton de 1992]. To be part of the lineage of this narrative is a privilege. But in the end…”

Warner Bros.

Colin Farrell thus confides having been exhausted by this filming and the very particular role of Oswald Cobblepot, which weighed on him:

“It's not like I don't know who I am deep down. I know I don't burn cars and stuff… But if you take what Matt Reeves created and then what Lauren LeFranc (showrunner) did and what Mike Marino (designer of the Penguin's prosthetics and makeup) did and you put it all together, it was a really powerful experience to have!”

So when the showrunner of the series discussed a possible sequel with him, Colin Farrell had a hard time imagining it: “Lauren asked me if I would be willing to discuss a comeback, if she could come up with a sequel idea that made sense. I said yes… and maybe in a year I would be willing to go back. But really, when I finished shooting this, I said to myself: I never want to wear that fucking costume again! Never that fucking face again!”

Except that the actor will still have to go back. He will indeed return in The Batman 2which will begin filming next year (released in theaters on October 2, 2026). The film's director, Matt Reevesrecently confirmed the presence of Colin Farrell in the casting.

The first season of the series The Penguin will begin on September 20 on Max in France.
