The same goes for Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani or Justin Timberlake: “If we had told them: 'Okay, then it will be in Lego', they would certainly have distorted their message a little,” justifies the artist.

Pharrell Williams has found an original and unique way to present his life and career. Is there a film made of building blocks about a singer? Since his documentary Piece by Pieceit is.

Punctuated by the well-known tune of “Happy”the trailer revealed earlier this year immersed us in the artist's imaginary mind and his creative vision of the world. Following the classic biopic path, from childhood to consecration, from musical conception as a brick-by-brick construction, Piece by Piece hid many other treasures and in particular a large number of cameos: Snoop Dog, Gwen Stefani, Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, Kendrick Lamar, etc. All these artists having collaborated one day with the one who hides behind the big hits of the 2000s. However, by participating in this project, all of them were unaware that they would end up… in Lego!

As the film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and its presentation ended with the intrusion of several protesters from PETA (the agency for the protection against animal abuse), accusing the artist, head of the men's collection at Louis Vuitton, of producing clothes made from furs and skins, Pharrell Williams confided to Variety The secrets of the creation of this funny documentary

“We deliberately kept the final result from them. We wanted these people to simply answer the questions and give their most complete and direct reaction to the interviews. If we had told them: 'Okay, so it will be in Lego', They would have certainly twisted their message a little bit. We didn't want them to be influenced by what we were making. We wanted the most authentic reactions. And I think the magic of this film, what makes it so popular, is that it's alive and it's not scripted.”

Once the truth was revealed, the artists were all pleasantly surprised. With Piece by Piecethe singer hopes to make a universal film where these small Lego pieces serve as a medium. After all, who has never played at making this type of construction? Moreover, for the occasion, Pharrell Williams showed up on the red carpet with a miniature version of himself made with Lego.

Piece by Piecedirected by Morgan Neville, will be released in France on November 20 and will be accompanied by new songs.
