French series beats The Simpsons at 2024 Emmy Awards

Blue Eye Samurai, produced mainly in Angoulême by Blue Spirit, won the award for Best Animated Series.

If you think there are too many categories at the Oscars, Emmy Awards are not for you… This weekend, the pre-ceremony is being held in Los Angeles. Two evenings (Saturday evening and Sunday evening) to award the secondary, technical and less glamorous prizes, before THE big evening of Emmy Awards 2024which will be held next week. 99 trophies (!) are still awarded during this pre-celebration weekend. Including that of the Best Animated Series.

And surprise: last night, the big winner was French. Indeed, it is Blue Eye Samuraithe Netflix animated series that was crowned. A French production, since it was made by Blue Spirit, a French animation studio. Olivier Lelardoux, its director, recently explained in an interview for the CNC that Blue Spirit had taken care of “of part of the pre-production and all of the animation production, of the layout [composition de l’image, ndlr] until delivery of the final plans of Blue Eye Samurai (…) Most of the animation, modeling and texturing work is done in Angoulême“, he specified. “This is where we achieved a significant part of Blue Eye Samuraiwith the help of our studio in Montreal.”

Blue Eye Samurai had already been awarded six Annie Awards in Los Angeles earlier this year.

She offers herself to the Emmy Awards the scalp of the big annual favorite in the category: The Simpsons. Matt Goening's great classic was the defending champion (12 wins in total to his name) and still in the running this year, with also the excellent X-Men '97 from Disney Plus or Bob's Burger. It should be noted that Blue Eye Samurai Another Netflix series made in France also follows in the rankings: Arcaneproduced by Fortiche Production for Netflix, won the statuette in 2022.

THE Emmy Awards 2024 will continue this evening with the first acting awards, then on Sunday, September 15 with the grand ceremony: The Bear, Shōgun, Only Murders in the Building, The Crown And True Detective: Night Country will be the favorites.
