As the film comes out in the United States on September 27, the predictions are not good.
It's all about the launch. Just like the literary rentrée, where for a book to sell well it must have benefited from a wide circulation, cinema meets the same requirements. And, according to several Hollywood research firms responsible for calculating and analyzing this data, the American launch of Megalopolis would be between 5 and 8 million dollars, one of the lowest of the career of Francis Ford Coppola.
A particularly low amount for a project that cost 125 million dollars and which would already seal, three weeks before the release, the fate of the film, received very coldly by critics at the Cannes Film Festival. While the filmmaker has committed part of his personal fortune to make Megalopoliswhich has been so dear to his heart for decades, fiscal sustainability may not be achieved.
Francis Ford Coppola's 'MEGALOPOLIS' is tracking to open with $5M domestically.
Budget was $120M.

Not one to be outdone, Megalopolis was accused a few days ago of using fake AI-generated reviews in a trailer. An episode that forced its distributor, Lionsgatewhich had already refused to buy the film, hastily removed the trailer and apologized profusely. The American company ended up publishing a new one this Thursday, which did not include any criticism.
Magnanimously, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Adam Fogelson complimented the company in a statement Thursday: “Working with the legendary Francis Ford Coppola has been a true privilege, and we are proud to have his groundbreaking film participate in the 62nd New York Film Festival.“. A way of clouding the issue, before the preview screening on September 23 as part of the Big Apple's cinematic gathering? The future of Megalopolislike its dystopian scenario, already seems threatened with ruin.
