The young actress who played Osha has just reacted on social networks by posting a surprising message. She explains that this cancellation is only a reflection of the anti-Acolyte which the series was a victim of, ““an outburst of vitriolic bigotry from a small, hyper-conservative group” she summarizes.
“I'm going to be transparent and say that this cancellation doesn't come as a huge shock to me.” spear Amandla Stenberg in the video. “We've been facing a barrage of attacks since the show was announced, when it was still a concept and no one had even seen it. That's when we started to experience what I would call vitriolic bigotry from a small, hyper-conservative group, based on prejudice, hatred and hateful language directed at us.”
It is true that the series Star Wars suffered from “review-bombing,” which is when a group of fans formed a digital protest by posting negative reviews en masse on the web and review aggregators like Rotten Tomatoes. A practice often linked to productions that include actors of color and LGBTQ characters, such as The Acolyte :
“It really affected me when I got this role. Because it's just not something you can understand until it happens to you (…) It's been an honor and an incredible dream for me to be in this universe. Of course, I'm very sad that the show was canceled. I just want to send my love to everyone who supported us through all the vitriol that we received and these targeted attacks that we received from the far right.”
