The cult anime is getting a new version, 30 years after the original.
This time, Bernard Minet will not be in the credits! 30 years after the broadcast of the famous Japanese cartoon in the Dorothée Club, Ranma 1/2 returns to Netflix in a brand new animated series. The trailer already reveals a remake that will scrupulously follow the original story and even replay some cult scenes from the original version.
Rumiko Takahashi's manga follows the wacky adventures of a young martial arts specialist named Ranma Saotome, who transforms into a girl when he is doused with cold water and becomes a boy again when he comes into contact with hot water!
This new adaptation is produced by MAPPA (Attack on Titan) and directed by Kônosuke Uda (One Piece, Days). Japanese actor Kappei Yamaguchi, who voiced Ranma Saotome in the 1990s (in the original version), is even back in the cast.
Ranma 1/2 will therefore follow”Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendo of the Tendo dojo, who are engaged by their parents“, teases the Netflix synopsis. “But Ranma is faced with an unusual problem. Ever since he fell into the cursed Jusenkyo Springs during a training session in China, his body has acquired the ability to transform into a girl when splashed with cold water and to turn back into a boy when exposed to hot water. Prepare yourself for a romantic comedy full of twists and turns and action starring Ranma, Akane, and a host of unique characters!
Directed by Kônosuke, Ranma 1/2 will launch on Netflix from October 5, 2024, with new episodes every week.
