Pacific Rim is back! A new prequel series is in the works

The story will be about the very first Kaijus and the first Jaegers, before the events of the first film directed by Guillermo del Toro.

Legendary studio has the idea of ​​making a spin-off series, a prequel that would go back to the origins of Pacific Rimbefore the events of the first film directed by Guillermo del Toro in 2013. This big-budget series is currently in development according to Variety, which specifies thatEric Heisserer (to whom we owe Shadow & Bone on Netflix) is being written with Carmen Lewis. No release date has been announced yet.

What exactly will the series be about? We don't know, but we remember that Pacific Rim opened at the time with a long 3-minute intro sequence, which served as an origin story (see below). We were already told how the Kaijus began to emerge from an interdimensional portal in the Pacific Ocean called “the Breach”. We were then told about the first battle of San Francisco, which lasted six days and led to the destruction of three cities, before the creature was shot down by missiles. And six months later, Manila was attacked by a new monster… Several followed one another and humanity understood that it needed a special plan to survive: it therefore built enormous robots called Jaegers to fight them. The series could therefore immerse us in this period of History, the first steps of the first Jaegers and their pilots who became “rock stars”, after having managed to get the upper hand on the Kaijus…
