Kit Harington Unable to Watch House of the Dragon

“I can't… I think I've just spent too much time in this universe,” admits the actor who plays Jon Snow.

In 2021, as soon as the construction of the House of the Dragon, Kit Harington had explained to him that it would be hard to watch the spin-off series Game of Thrones. After spending so many years in the shoes of one of his heroes, Jon Snow, the actor confided:

“There's emotion in seeing all this for me. Seeing these people put on these costumes, which look like the ones we've worn for all these years, hearing the same music, the same style and the same tone, but not being there… inevitably it's hard. It will always be a little painful. Of course, I'm going to watch it, this spin-off! I wish them the best, even if it's true that all this, this whole story, is still close to my heart, and that inevitably, it's going to hurt to watch it.”

Now that House of the Dragon has just wrapped its second season, and its showrunners want turn four in all to wrap up GRR Martin's story, Kit admits that he ultimately didn't have the courage to follow this new series. Three years after this first reaction, and while his own spin-off series about Jon Snow has been canceled by HBO, he explained to theAssociated Press during the preview of his new series, Industry :

“I can't watch it… I guess I've just spent too much time in that universe? I wish them all the best. I'm told the show is wonderful and doing very well. But personally, I don't think I'll watch it. And I don't think I'll want to watch it again either. Game of Thrones before a few years.”

Kit Harrington has never hidden his attachment to the franchise that made him a star. Since 2019, he has admitted to having become so attached to his character that he had a hard time moving on, “not seeing him in the mirror anymore, but seeing myself. I think that kind of thing takes time.”
