Paramount reportedly running out of 70mm copies of Christopher Nolan's film…

In April, Warner Bros. and Paramount announced their merger around the release ofInterstellar in theaters. Set for the end of September, this decision would have made it possible to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the science fiction film by Christopher Nolan a little ahead of schedule, since it was initially released worldwide in November 2014. Finally, the project will be a little late, we learn Variety.

The Hollywood website reveals that this re-release will move from September 27 to December 6 in the United States, and that the film will be shown “in 70mm IMAX prints, as well as digitally.”
“This date has been pushed back to align with the re-release of the film on Blu-ray, according to people close to the matter”the paper specifies. Variety then evokes a “rumor”which has been running for several days regarding numerous “70mm prints that were allegedly destroyed. Paramount claims they have archived more prints of this film than any other. However, since the film stock deteriorates with each showing of a film on this type of medium, it is not uncommon for them to become unusable during their theatrical run.”

The studio would therefore not have decided to destroy copies ofInterstellar for no reason, but would have recovered many that are no longer viewable. But this should be repaired by December 6, the new date of the film's re-release: the director clearly wants his work to be re-released on film, as well as in IMAX, a format that he has greatly defended – and successfully– when leavingOppenheimer.
