Ryan was only 14 when he signed on for his first series, Fifteenalso known as Hillside in Canada. A soap opera of around sixty episodes broadcast between 1991 and 1993 on Nickelodeon, after a test abandoned by Disney Channel.

Reynolds appears in only 13 episodes as Billy Simpson, a young student who has experienced several betrayals. Rejected by girls he was courting, he bullies younger students at his school, before apologizing and taking the advice of his best friend, Dylan (Chris William Martin, later seen in The L Word And Felicity).

Asked about this first experience on ABCin 2016, the actor revealed that he was very happy to land the job, which was also filmed near his home in Vancouver, before feeling less and less comfortable as the series went on:

“I remember we were getting paid $150 an episode. Which was huge for me, I felt like a billionaire! Doing that job for $150 a day was the dream. At the same time, I was always hired to deliver the mail, so as soon as I was done shooting, I would come home and hop, I would go back on tour. But eventually, I hated it: I think I was just looking for an excuse to get out of the house! After that, I wanted to live off 'real' experiences, so I got a job in a restaurant for two years. I was glad I did, because it saved me from ending up like a lot of child actors, broken by a drug addiction.”

Not running for two years following Fifteenhe eventually changed his mind and made several appearances in the mid-1990s, including in episodes ofBeyond reality and of X-Filesas well as in the TV movie Sabrina, the Teenage WitchIn 1997, he signed for his first leading role on television in A roof for threean American sitcom, and moved to Los Angeles.

Having become a model alongside his acting career, notably for the Calvin Klein underwear brand, it was not until 2004 that he signed for his first major production: Blade: TrinityAlongside Wesley Snipes, he was noticed by a wider audience than with his comedies. American Party or the spy movie Spy but not too much. New superhero role in first solo film dedicated to Wolverinein 2009. Ironically, his Deadpool is rendered mute for most of the film, and Reynolds thinks he will never play the character he loved again…

He was then more famous for his romantic conquests than for his film roles: Alanis Morissette and Scarlett Johansson shared his life in the early 2000s, making Ryan Reynolds one of the most followed personalities by the tabloids.

After shooting a new Amityville or Starting bidby Joe Carnahan, he achieved great success in 2009 thanks to the rom-com Proposalby Anne Fletcher, in which he shares the bill with Sandra Bullock. Followed by the effective thriller Buriedand finally Green Lanterntwo years later, a first role that will literally change his life.

While Martin Campbell's film received generally mixed reviews, Reynolds met the actress who would become his wife on the set. Blake Livelywith whom he will quickly start a family. Thanks to Dead Poolin 2016, he will have the opportunity to openly mock this project considered by many as a failure, although he personally propelled it to stardom. Same again in 2018, where he settles his scores with his past flops in an exceptional post-credits scene.
