To help him in his mission against time, he will be able to count on none other than Al Pacino.

As an actor, Michael Keaton has a long filmography behind him. Most famous for having played Batman and Beetlejuice – on one hand a superhero and on the other, a villainous anti-hero – the actor is also a director in his spare time. Thirteen years ago, he directed his first feature film, Killing Gentleman – a thriller in which a young woman who is the victim of a violent husband rebuilds her life in Chicago and crosses paths with a professional killer. After this discreet start, he took a break to return last year in Knox Goes Away. For the second time, Keaton dons the double hat of actor/director and takes up similar themes to his previous film: a meticulous observation of the characters and especially a killer as the main character. And just like in Killing Gentlemanit is the director himself who plays his role.

John Knox is a professional assassin. He has never missed a target… Until very recently. Consulting a doctor following this incident, he is diagnosed with severe dementia. He has only a few days to live and wants to redeem himself before it is too late. Unfortunately for him, at the same time, his son Miles (James Mardsen) arrives at his house and confesses to being responsible for a murder. To save his child from the clutches of the police who are already investigating the murders that he committed, Knox will have to go faster than the police and his illness which catches up with him faster than expected.

His greatest enemy? Time.

With a choppy montage to recall the blur surrounding the character's memory, this new thriller also promises to be an introspection with Michael Keaton at the center. Around him gravitates in particular Al Pacino, in the shoes of Xavier Crane, a good friend of John Knox who will help him put his plan into action.

Premiered last year at TIFF, the Toronto International Film Festival, Knox Goes Away was released earlier this year in the United States to positive reviews. Rotten Tomatoesit receives a score of 84% from the spectators. On the press side, the New York Times writing :

“Its sedate pace and mood won't suit everyone, but this understated thriller resolves its extremely high stakes with a twisting intelligence.”

In France, the film skips the cinema box to land on August 9 on Prime Video – one month before the release of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice where Keaton will return as the iconic and completely crazy bio-exorcist: he tells us about it in the new issue of First (n°553) alongside Tim Burton, Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci…
