Martha Stewart was born on August 3, 1941 in New Jersey. Before becoming the face of her famous lifestyle brand, she was a stockbroker on Wall Street.

After earning a bachelor's degree in history and architectural history from Barnard College, marrying Andrew Stewart and becoming a stockbroker on Wall Street, she embarked on a new career, opening a catering business.

In 1982, the first in a long series of Stewart books was published, entitled “Entertaining,” which explained how to organize gatherings, large and small.

Then came Stewart's lifestyle magazine, published by Time Publishing Ventures, and her syndicated television show, “Martha Stewart Living.”

From there, Stewart began launching different product lines focused on housewares.

All of this led to the IPO of Stewart's company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, on the New York Stock Exchange in 1999.

Stewart's career was cut short in 2004 when she spent five months in prison and five months under house arrest.

Her imprisonment was linked to her involvement in insider trading in December 2001, when she sold her large stake in ImClone Systems, a biopharmaceutical company, the day before bad news broke.

After serving his sentence, Stewart began to return to the spotlight.

She has maintained a presence on television over the years, appearing on shows like “Martha Bakes” and “Bakeaway Camp with Martha Stewart.”
