“The dragons dance, and men are as dust under their feet.”

The last episode of the second season of House of the Dragon has not yet been released, that as is the tradition of successful series, the latter has leaked during the week. The spectators must then dodge as best they can the spoilers that are swarming on social networks. This is not the first time that this has happened in the history of the franchise. During seasons 5, 7 and 8, many episodes of Game Of Thrones also found themselves online before their broadcast. Fans are used to it. Following the leak of the series finale, HBO recently spoke out:

“We have been notified that excerpts from the latest episode of House of the Dragon have surfaced on social media. These clips were posted after an unintentional publication by a third-party distributor. HBO is working hard to remove these videos from the Internet so that viewers can watch the episode in its entirety this Sunday night on HBO and Max.”

But what exactly does this eighth episode have in store? The season is coming to an end, but the Dance of the Dragons still has its share of drama in store, which is what this finale is full of. Viewers are expecting an epic battle, and that's where the episode's trailer is heading. Warning, spoilers!

Previously, new dragonriders have reached Rhaenyra's side. The Prince Regent, Aemond, does not see this favorably. With more dragons on the Black side, wouldn't it smell like a scorch – or rather a burn – for the Greens?

“The dragons dance, and men are as dust under their feet.”

Ser Criston Cole, sent to the Riverlands to dislodge Daemon from Harrenhaal, sets the tone. Each side prepares for the confrontation. In a position of strength, Rhaenyra celebrates the arrival of the fine team and suggests taking advantage of their numerical advantage to attack. King's Landing? With these new dragons and two land armies: Daemon's in the Riverlands, the Starks' that we see in this trailer, and the Velaryon fleet setting sail, the Blacks seem close to victory.

But could it be? On the Green side, a new dragon is also there: Tessarion. He flies above an army, surely that of the Hightowers who have come to lend a hand. His presence signals the arrival of a key character, until now only mentioned several times: Daeron, Alicent's last son. But while the showrunner of the series, Ryan Condal, had announced that the character has not yet been cast, will we only see his dragon for the time being?

House of the Dragon: Who is Daeron Targaryen, this forgotten character of the saga finally mentioned?

In King's Landing, Aemond is circling like a caged lion, refusing his hand and seeming ready for anything: “We will respond to this affront with an affront.” We see him burning a village, and asking his sister Helaena to ride his dragon Songfire. A request that she will probably not fulfill. Indeed, in the book Fire and Blood which inspired the series, the young woman is so upset by the loss of her child that she is unable to leave her room, much less find her dragon. Faced with the suffering she has experienced, her mother Alicent warns Aemond against this statement.

Aemond will thus be the only one to leave King's Landing on Vhagar's back. The Greens are disunited while the Blacks appear on their best day. Daemon's words promise deaths – many deaths – to come:

“For every one of us who falls, there will be hundreds at home. There will be no mercy!”

And that's saying something. Because the trailer seems to suggest a naval battle: we see the ships of the Triarchy (pirates from Essos) arriving on the coast and Lord Tyland Lannister negotiating with them. Everything suggests that this is one of the battles well known to readers. The one at Rook's Rest was just a taste…

Now that we know that the series has been renewed for a third season, it remains to be seen whether this finale will end with a cliffhanger capable of keeping viewers in suspense, while waiting a few years to find out the outcome.

Episode eight, the finale of this second season, will be available on Monday, August 5 on Max.

When will we see House of the Dragon season 3?
