The series was supposed to take place in the same universe as the 2003 series.

The reboot of Battlestar Galactica will certainly never see the light of day. Variety announces that this project, first announced in 2019, before the official launch of the Peacock platform (which does not exist in France), is no longer in development. The series had been initiated by Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot And Homecomingas well as the Netflix movie The World After Us), who was set to executive produce through his company Esmail Corp. Michael Lesslie was originally hired as a writer for the reboot in 2020, but left the project in 2021. Most recently, Derek Simonds was attached to the series as a writer, executive producer and showrunner.

The story of the reboot of Battlestar Galactica remained secret, but we did know that it was to take place in the same universe as the 2003 series. The latter, piloted by Ronald D. Moore, lasted four seasons and even had a spin-off, Caprica. ” BSG fans, this will NOT be a remake of the incredible series started by Ron D. Moore… because there’s no reason to mess with something perfect. Instead, we’ll be exploring a new story set in that mythology while staying true to the spirit of Battlestar. That’s what we’re all saying. ” assured Sam Esmail in 2019.

As a reminder, in Battlestar Galacticahumanity has been locked in a devastating war with intelligent robots called Cylons. After the Cylons destroy much of the human population living in colonies in a distant star system, the survivors set out in search of a long-forgotten planet: Earth.
