AH, I MEAN THAT’S BEEN THAT’S ALL EVERYBODY BOUGHT I STARTED LAST WEEKEND WITH 200 OF THEM. I GOT ABOUT 60 LEFT. HOMETOWN SPORTS ON CARSON STREET IS A GOOD PLACE TO MEASURE EXCITEMENT ABOUT THE PIRATES. IT’S THE HIGHEST IT’S BEEN IN YEARS. SO, SHELDON, I CAN’T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME THAT PEOPLE ARE SO EXCITED ABOUT THE PIRATES AND THEIR CHANCES OF MAYBE MAKING THE PLAYOFFS AND GOING FURTHER. I THINK IT’S THE GREATEST THING TO HAPPEN IN PROBABLY 20 YEARS. THE PITTSBURGH AND PENNSYLVANIA AND EVEN ME, I’M JUST I LIVE FOR THEM WHEN THEY’RE NOT PLAYING. I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF. PIRATES FANS ARE COMING TO PNC PARK WITH A LOT OF EXCITEMENT FROM CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA, ALABAMA AND OTHER STATES. TONIGHT’S CROWD EVEN HAS A LITTLE MORE KICK WITH PAUL SKENES ON THE MOUND AND THE PAUL SKENES FACTOR. HOW EXCITED ARE YOU ABOUT THAT? THAT’S WHY I’M HERE TONIGHT. I WAS HERE WHEN THEY DID THE GRAND SLAM. THEY RAN OUT OF FIREWORKS. MY SISTER AND I. THE PLACE WAS SHAKING. SCREENS WERE GOING TO SEE SCREENS TONIGHT. SKENES HAS MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE. SO I’M PLEASED THEY NEED TO GO GET A BAT NOW. APPROACHING THE FINAL WEEK OF JULY, THE PIRATES ARE IN CONTENTION FOR A WILD CARD SPOT IN THE PLAYOFFS. Pirates snag from Blue Jays, Marlins, exchange Pérez in eleventh-hour MLB trades

The Pirates were buyers at the trade deadline, adding several pieces for what they hope could be their first trip to the playoffs in almost 10 years. The biggest moves happened in the final hour before the deadline. The Bucs struck a deal with Miami to bring left-fielder Bryan de la Cruz to Pittsburgh, trading right-handed pitcher Jun-Seok Shim and infielder Garret Forrester, both in the minors. De la Cruz is 27 and playing in his fourth big-league season. He has 18 home runs, just one shy of his total from all of last year. The Bucs also added Isiah Kiner-Falefa from the Blue Jays. He’s a super utility guy, capable of playing everywhere, and has some pop at the plate: eight doubles, two triples and seven home runs in just 82 games this season. He could play at second base until Nick Gonzales returns from injury. The final buzzer-beater: left-handed pitcher Ronaldys Jimenez, who comes to the Pirates from the minor leagues via the Padres for fellow lefty Martín Pérez. The 18-year-old Jimenez was signed to San Diego last year and had a 1.50 ERA in three starts this season. Earlier in the day, the Pirates added Mets left-handed reliever Josh Walker. On Monday night, reliever Jalen Beeks from the Rockies was traded to Pittsburgh and he is reportedly already in the Pirates clubhouse in Houston for their series against the Astros. Also now with the Buccos: second baseman Nick Yorke from the Red Sox, who will be starting with Triple-A Indianapolis.
