It is the first franchise to pass the 30 billion dollar mark, (very) far ahead of Spider-Man or Star Wars.

Only the first American day of Deadpool and Wolverine to make the record go down in history: thanks to the $96 million earned by Shawn Levy's blockbuster on Friday, the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise has crossed the $30 billion mark in revenue. A feat achieved in 34 films, released over 16 years.

Since Sunday, the reunion between the two mutants from Fox who recently arrived at Disney has amassed more than 200 million in the US, and nearly 500 worldwide, ratifying this record. The film has every chance of becoming a billionaire, like all Avengers, Black Panther, Iron Man 3 Or Captain Marvel before him. This is all the more impressive since it is the only MCU title to be stamped R-Rated (not recommended for children under 17 unaccompanied by an adult) in the USA.

Deadpool and Wolverine shatter R-rated movie box office record

Since the release ofIron Man and Hulk by Louis Leterrier in 2008, Marvel has multiplied the big successes. Especially since the reunion of superheroes in the first Avengersfour years later, the first in the saga to become a billionaire in the world. Endgame And Infinity Warreleased in 2019 and 2018, have largely beaten their predecessors by earning 2.7 and 2.05 billion greenbacks each. And even the less successful productions are all over 200 million worldwide: 476 for Ant-Man and the Wasp : Quantumania402 million for The Eternals or 206 million for The Marvels (which remains below its budget!).

Marvel

Other Hollywood franchises are far behind, which makes sense, since they have fewer films, even though many are older than Kevin Feige's MCU. Here's the list, with the Spiderman solo notified: this saga was initiated by Sony, before the studio became a partner of Disney-Marvel for Homecomingin 2017, and its spin-offs such as Venom Or Morbius are not counted below.

1. The MCU has grossed $30 million in 34 films
2. Spiderman grossed $10.6 billion from 10 films
3. Star Wars grossed $10.3 billion from 11 films
4. Harry Potter has grossed $9.6 billion from 11 films
5. James Bond has grossed $7.8 billion from 25 films
