Doctor Who conquers Star Trek… but not only!

The BBC is killing two birds with one stone by announcing a spin-off in addition to a crossover with the Star Trek universe.

There's going to be some commotion in the world of Doctor Who. With a new doctor played by Ncuti Gatwathe series co-produced by the BBC and Disney seems to be back in full swing. So much so that the San Diego Comic-Con was the occasion to announce good news for fans of the series.

After Torchwood in 2006, The Sarah Jane Adventures in 2007, Class in 2016 and Tales of the TARDIS Last year, a new spin-off series was set to be released. Entitled The War Between the Land and the Seashe will see “an ancient and fearsome species emerges from the ocean, revealing itself to humanity in spectacular fashion.” Since then, “An international crisis is triggered. With the entire population in danger, UNIT springs into action as land and sea wage war.”.

It is Russell T. Daviesthe current showrunner of Doctor Who who signs this spin-off, with Pete McTighanother regular in the writing rooms of the BBC's flagship show.

“I am very lucky to work with such a wonderful teamhe says.. This is a huge, muscular, thrilling drama that will shake the Whoniverse to its foundations. When the Doctor is out of town, all of humanity is in trouble.”

To bring their five-episode script to the screen, Dylan Holmes-Williamswho directed some of the episodes of the last season of Doctor WhoFilming will begin in August.

Although this story will be completely new, some of the most nostalgic will be able to recognize at least two characters and their actors because the production announced the return of Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, played by Jemma Redgrave since 2012 and Colonel Ibrahim, carried by Alexander Devrient in the last season.

Alongside them, two new faces: Russell Toveyalready seen in season 11 ofAmerican Horror StoryAnd Gugu Mbatha-Rawwho played the role of Ravonna Renslayer/Rebecca Tourminet in the Disney+ series Loki.

But that's not all, because in addition to a spin-off, fans also learned of the imminence of a crossover with one of the most famous narrative universes: that of Star Trek. Independent video game production company East Side Games has announced that it is developing an arc that combines the games Star Trek: Lower Deck – The Badgey Directive, And Doctor Who: Lost in Time from August 1, 2024.

According to one of the leaders of the Game department, Kevin Jorgethe BBC is “Very excited to bring together these iconic franchises for a crossover event that fans can only dream of. This collaboration offers a unique opportunity to explore an entirely new storyline in which the Doctor and the characters from Star Trek can work together!”

Players will be able to discover the story of a “mysterious space-time ripple that projects the Doctor aboard the USS Cerritos from Star Trek: Lower Decksas Lieutenant Brad Boimler and Ensign Beckett Mariner find themselves thrust into the enigmatic world of Doctor Who.”

And all this in honor of International Friendship Day! In fact, Paramount is expressing the same enthusiasm.

“Bringing together an iconic sci-fi franchise like Star Trek and another timeless franchise like Doctor Who as part of an unprecedented mobile gaming event was an exciting experienceaccording to Doug Rosen, an employee in Paramount's Games and Emerging Media department. We can't wait for fans of both series to experience the magic that happens when these two worlds collide.”

Enough to give fans something to think about Doctor Who before the release of the next season.
