The latest Disney-Pixar is a hit (almost) everywhere in the world: it still has to be released in Japan.

With $1.468 billion in revenue since its theatrical release, Inside Out 2 just doubled the total score of Frozen 2 (1,454 won in 2019) to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time worldwide – a ranking which, it should be noted, does not take into account the new Lion King by Jon Favreau, considered a “live action” compared to the 1994 cartoon, despite its characters being mainly digitally animated (but sometimes in natural settings).

This is a big coup for Disney-Pixar: the first studio now has 7 productions in the top 10 of the biggest animated successes of all time, including five from the company with the lamp.

Here are the animated films that have managed to cross the billion dollar mark in revenue:

  1. Inside Out 2 accounts for $1.468 billion since 2024

  2. Frozen 2 has recorded $1.454 billion since 2019

  3. Super Mario Bros. has recorded $1.361 billion since 2023

  4. Snow Queen has recorded $1.274 billion since 2013

  5. The Incredibles 2 has recorded $1.242 billion since 2018

  6. Minions has recorded $1.157 billion since 2015

  7. Toy Story 4 has recorded $1.072 billion since 2019

  8. Despicable Me 3 has recorded $1.032 billion since 2017

  9. Finding Dory has generated $1 billion since 2016

Pixar

Since its theatrical release in early June, Inside Out 2directed by Kelsey Mann, has broken record after record: first that of the best worldwide opening for an animated film, then that of the fastest blockbuster to have reached the billion dollar mark in receipts (in just 19 days), and finally that of Pixar's biggest hit in the world. It still has a few million dollars to collect in the United States to become the studio's biggest success there: for the moment, it is still The Incredibles 2 who is in the lead with 608 million greenbacks earned in 2018 – Inside Out 2 follows very closely, with 600 million.

In the rest of the world, this sequel is a hit in Mexico, where it has grossed nearly 100 million, in Brazil (73 million), in the United Kingdom (over 60 million) and in South Korea and France (over 50 million each). The film is still due to be released in Japan on August 1.

Finally, let us recall that in 2015, the first Inside Out had already done very well worldwide, amassing $858 million in revenue, driven by excellent reviews.

Here is the trailer for its sequel, which is still showing in French theaters:
