Before A Quiet Place: Day 1, Lupita Nyong'o Was Afraid of Cats

“When I found myself in a room with a cat, I would start crying.”

It often happens that actors confront their greatest fears on film sets. For example, Rupert Grint was so afraid of spiders that the ones in Harry Potter scenes are fake and not real as originally intended. As for Ryan Reynolds, who suffers from claustrophobia, filming Buried was a real ordeal for him. For A Quiet Place: Day 1the main actress Lupita Nyong'o had to treat his felinophobia: his fear of cats.

When the actress was asked whether she was more of a “cat person” or a “dog person,” the answer was obvious. In a recent interview with the American program CBS Morningsshe admitted to having suffered from her fear of cats for a long time.

“I've always been afraid of cats. When I was in a room with a cat, I would start crying. I found them suspicious, you know? They're like little lions, and if they had been bigger, they would have eaten us.”

In Without a Sound: Day 1, Lupita Nyong'o plays Samira, a woman suffering from cancer who has a pet cat named Frodo. In the heart of a silenced New York, she witnesses the invasion of these alien creatures and carries Frodo everywhere she goes throughout this apocalypse. He is the real star of this film.

During the interview, she also revealed that she begged director Michael Sarnoski to use another animal in the script. Why did it have to be a cat, why wasn't it a rabbit, a hamster, or a dog like in I'm a legend ?

Finally, after choosing to undergo therapy to combat her phobia, Lupita Nyong'o is now crazy about cats – and especially about Schnitzel and Nico, the two little companions at the heart of the promo.

In everyday life, she even became the owner of an orange cat that she called Yoyo and that she displays everywhere on social networks.

“I never understood those people who had pictures of their pets on their phones – now I'm one of those people. It may seem like I saved Yoyo, but in truth it was Yoyo who saved me.”
