“I feel like it will do some good, and I have things to say,” the director explains.

Often when we say Sophie Marceaua generation thinks The partyclassic eighties of Claude Pinoteau in which the actress takes her first steps in front of the camera alongside Brigitte Fossey And Claude Brasseur. Another thinks LOL (Laughing Out Loud)2009 rom-com by Lisa Azuelos where the roles are reversed, Sophie Marceau playing the mother of a young girl in the midst of an adolescent crisis.

And as there was The Boom 2 (in 1982) there will be LOL 2.

It is the director herself who announced it via her podcast “Come on, I dare” and her Instagram account. A few days ago, she invited Jeremy Kapone (Maël in the film) to discuss his experience with her. We learn why he almost missed out on his role, or what turn his career took after the release of LOL.

But more importantly, an excerpt in which the two artists confirm that a sequel is indeed in the pipeline: “I wrote the script”announces the director, to which her actor adds: “For me, it was always obvious that we were going to make a sequel”. The goal? To respond to the pressing demand of a loyal audience ready to dive back into this universe:

“There is a generation LOLjustifies Lisa Azuelos. I get on Insta as soon as I talk about LOLof the : 'Oh, please, make a sequel'. Really, suddenly, I feel like it's going to feel good. And then I have things to say.”

A few days later, Lisa Azuelos confirmed the production of a sequel, and revealed the first drafts of the casting to Coralie Boom Coeur:

“I wrote it. I suggested it to Sophie Marceau. She said yes. (…) I think that a lot of people are waiting, because a lot of people talk to me about it. There will be Jérémy Kapone. On the other hand, there will not be Christa Théret. She preferred not to follow up in order to do the sequel. There will be the two other children who were small.”

At the time, LOL had revealed a whole generation of young talents to the general public: Christa Theret who continued a career as an actress (The man who Laughs, The Boss's Daughter), Jeremy Kapone who then devoted himself to music, Felix Moati who made his directorial debut in 2018 with Two sonsand even Pierre Nineywho was then experiencing his second filming for the big screen. Alexandre Astier And Francoise Fabian completed the cast alongside Sophie Marceau.

However, in Lisa Azuelos' podcast, Jérémy Kapone specifies that the director will not simply make something new out of something old: “It’s not going to be just a sequel with the same characters. (…) You brought back a lot of new characters.”

Let us recall that in 2009, LOL It's 3.6 million viewers, and a US adaptation with none other than Miley Cyrus, Demi Moore or Ashley Greene in the casting. After this exceptional success, Lisa Azuelos had reunited with Sophie Marceau for An encounter in 2014 and I Love America in 2022. With the exception of Dalida (2016), his following achievements (My baby, The Chamber of Wonders) will always be traversed by a reflection on family ties, adolescence, the relationship to motherhood.

For LOL 2 (working title), the filmmaker does not deviate from her project, bringing back into fashion the anxieties that the character of Lola already carried in the first film:

“The idea is that your generation wants to live 1000 lives, and it wants to screw up none of them. And above all, it is very afraid of screwing up its life. As long as we are afraid, nothing good is going to happen.”

As of now, the official synopsis of the film has not been revealed, as has its final cast and information relating to its filming.
