Indeed, the author of Game Of Thrones confirms that the dog in question is a total invention of the series. It does not exist in the book Fire & Blood : “I'm… uh… generally not a fan of writers who add characters when adapting an original work. Especially when it's mine. But that dog was awesome.”Martin writes on his blog.

And later, when the dog stood at his feet, looking up at his master… it almost broke my heart. Such a small thing. Such a small dog, but a great presence. The few brief moments he was on screen gave the rat catcher a whole new humanity. Human beings are complex creatures.
