Michael Mann Shares His Favorite Movies on Letterboxd

Among them, Battleship Potemkin, Apocalypse Now, and even the very recent Poor Creatures!

After Kyle MacLachlanit's the turn of Michael Manna leading director of the post-New Hollywood generation, to create a Letterboxd account, which, followed by nearly 13,000 people in just one day, ironically only subscribed to an account bearing the name of “Michael Mann Facts”.

Mann has signed classics such as The solitary, The Sixth Sense (Manhunter), The Last of the Mohicans, Heat, Collateral or Miami Viceand worked with some of the greatest actors of all generations (James Caan, Brian Cox, Daniel Day-Lewis, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Val Kilmer, Tom Cruise, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jamie Foxx, Colin Farrell…).

Today he reveals a list titled “14 Favorite Movies in No Particular Order (Except Potemkin)” on Letterboxd, a network that allows film lovers around the world to share ratings and reviews of the films they have seen.

We understood it well, The Battleship Potemkin of Sergei Eisensteinis at the top of this list which honors films of all ages and backgrounds. We then find:

A list that varies a little from the one Michael Mann established a few years ago for Sight and Sound and the British Film Institute. Films by Coppola, Eisenstein, Iñárritu, Scorsese and Kubrick were already included, but Avatar, Citizen Kane, The Infernal Pursuit, The Passion of Joan of Arc And The Wild Bunch completed this inventory.

Today, Mann presents a list where New Hollywood hits rub shoulders with Japanese New Wave, French classics and more contemporary UFOs. He who made his big comeback with the release of Ferrari Last year thus pays tribute to those who came before him while making room for a new generation. Even to Lanthimos, whose Poor Creatures left Venice last year with the Golden Lion in his pocket – for which Ferrari would also compete.

At 81, Michael Mann does not intend to stop at the twelve features he has directed. A few months ago, the filmmaker announced that he was working on a sequel to Heatwhose filming could begin this summer, without knowing more about the casting or the synopsis.

By the time the film comes to fruition, he will have had time to update his list of favorite films.
