They are both cousins, and half-brother and half-sister… And yet, they are also engaged to each other! The love story between Jacaerys and Baela is twisted to say the least, but it is nonetheless sincere.
In episode 2 of season 2 of House of the Dragon, we discover that Rhaenyra's eldest son, heir to the Iron Throne if she wins her war, maintains a truly sentimental relationship with Daemon's daughter. And for good reason, according to Harry Colletttheir complicity is not feigned:
“They are always there for each other. They are going through the same pain, the same mourning, after Luke’s death,” analyzes for Première the interpreter of Prince Jacaerys Velaryon.
“To me, they have the healthiest relationship in all of Westeros. We've known there's something between them, ever since they held hands. In my opinion, they're genuinely in love with each other. Not just because they're forced to be or because they were forced into each other at a banquet. They've always been close.”
The actress Bethany Antonia nods: “You don't often see this kind of relationship in Westeros.“, she emphasizes for Première. The one who has played Lady Baela since season 1 admits that it is “nice to embody this couple who have been on the same wavelength since their earliest childhood. They were friends growing up and this friendship has transformed into something more with age. In season 2, we see them evolve together, as a duo, even within the Team Black council. They speak with one voice and we will see what that will change for them later…“
