A San Francisco 49ers rookie receiver was shot during a robbery attempt Saturday. Reports say Ricky Pearsall was shot while on his way to an autograph signing in San Francisco’s Union Square neighborhood. A suspect attempted to steal Pearsall’s Rolex watch by pointing a gun at him. A struggle between the suspect and Pearsall ensued. Both Pearsall and the suspect were shot. They were both taken to San Francisco General Hospital and are in stable condition, the San Francisco Police Department said.Following the shooting, Mayor London Breed issued a statement.”This afternoon, there was an attempted robbery in Union Square involving San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, and he was shot,” Breed wrote on the social platform X. “SFPD was on scene immediately, and an arrest of the shooter was made. My thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time. We will provide more updates, including on his condition, as I receive them.”Pearsall was the No. 31 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.He started his college career at Arizona State before transferring to Florida where he played two seasons with the Gators. He had 65 catches for 965 yards and four touchdowns last season and finished his career with 159 catches for 2,420 yards and 14 TDs.Pearsall had turned heads during 49ers training camp this summer and looked to be a starter for San Francisco, according to team reporters. He did not see action in any preseason games, though, as he sustained a shoulder subluxation.
