The family of the 19-year-old killed along the Parkway East back in April says they are still searching for answers and closures nearly six months after the death of their beloved son and brother, Delmar Greer Jr. His family called him “Junior.” They describe him as a “good kid” who was always helping out his neighbors with cutting grass and doing yard work. Investigators told the family that the teenager’s car was found broken down near the Penn Hills exit and they believe he may have been walking home to Wilkinsburg. “He had more knowledge, even if he was walking along the side of that road, not to be running in the middle of the street and be getting hit by a car,” said Greer Sr. The older Greer described the last five and half months as a bad dream, saying it’s hard to get out of bed each and every day. He says after the accident, his life “went quiet.” He also used the word “quiet” to describe his interactions with investigators working on his son’s case. “I just need to know what happened to my son,” Greer Sr. said. “That’s what I really want to know.” On Monday, an Allegheny County medical examiner ruled Greer’s death as an accident. The family says, based on previous conversations with police, they don’t understand how the incident could be ruled as an accident. “They said my son was hit and dragged 75 feet,” Greer said. “How could that be an accident?” Greer says there have been other concerns as well, like conflicting statements over what his son was wearing that night and if cameras positioned along the Parkway have the capability of recording video. The family says, at this point, they are just hoping for some answers that may bring them some closure. “It just doesn’t make sense,” said Greer, who would like to eventually see criminal charges filed against the driver in this case. Pennsylvania State Police are handling the investigation. No charges have been filed and troopers said the case remains active as they continue to investigate.
