Why Wolverine Gets His Iconic Yellow Suit Back in Deadpool 3

Kevin Feige recalls the days of the X-Men movies when the yellow “fluorescent Spandex” outfit was unimaginable for a Hollywood star.

Hugh Jackman played the adamantium-clawed mutant in nine films X-Menover two decades, and yet he never wore Wolverine's iconic yellow costume. Until now. As he reprises the character in Deadpool & Wolverinethe 55-year-old Australian actor will be able to slip into the famous mustard-colored outfit. The least we can do for Kevin Feige. Indeed, the current boss of Marvel Studios – who had already worked on the films X-Men at the time – insisted that Wolverine get his tunic back:

“When we told Kevin that Hugh was going to be there, the first thing he said to me was: “OK, but if he finally wears his yellow suit!” tells Variety Shan Levythe director, who was not hard to convince: “We immediately said, 'Fuck Yeah!'“

Because Kevin Feige was visibly frustrated at not being able to dress the clawed hero of X-Men with his iconic costume at the time, because the executives of the 20th Century Fox studio did not want Hollywood stars to “wear clothes as flashy and silly as fluorescent Spandex. He preferred to go for black leather!”

A heresy for Feige, who believes in Variety: “Hugh Jackman never having appeared in the character's most iconic costume… Honestly, it's like Superman going 10 movies without ever wearing his Superman costume. Can you imagine? But it also shows that Wolverine didn't necessarily need his costume to be strong. The character is more than that costume.”

That said, when the former associate producer of X-Men who became the boss of Marvel had his say, and he was quick to correct the injustice: “When I realized Hugh was going to be with us, I went from studio mode to fan mode: “You know you're going to have to wear the yellow outfit, right?“

Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in theaters on July 24.
