Wesley Snipes mocks Marvel after Blade director leaves

5 years after its announcement, the new Blade with Mahershala Ali is getting bogged down in production hassles.

July 2019. Kevin Feige announces a reboot of Blade at San Diego Comic-Con, with Mahershala Ali in the title role. Despite the screams of some of the fans, Wesley Snipes, who played the vampire in the original trilogy (released between 1998 and 2004), came to the aid of the project by giving his blessing to his replacement. But five later, six and screenwriters and two directors, this new Blade is at a standstill. As if struck by a curse.

Following the departure of Yann Demange, Blade no longer has a director, but a new author: Eric Pearson. A Marvel veteran (he notably worked on Fantastic Four, Black Widow and Thor: Ragnarok), he has the difficult task of saving the film which was initially scheduled to be released in November 2023 and is now scheduled for November 2025. A situation which makes sneer Wesley Snipes on social media.

Will the Blade movie ever be made? Director Yann Demange leaves the ship in turn

No more benevolence, the former action star of the 1990s openly mocked Marvel's latest delays on his X account (formerly Twitter), with a GIF of Blade letting out a tense smile as an illustration: “Blade, sweet Jesus, the guys are still looking for the secret formula, they drive snow plows in traffic, it's complicated. It seemed easy for daywalkers, didn't it?

(as a reminder, Blade is a diurnambulist, a daywalker in the original version, a sort of semi-vampire who does not fear daylight)

We imagine that Mahershala Ali finds it much less funny. Especially since he himself had chosen Yann Demange, in 2022, to take the reins of the project following the departure of Bassam Tariq. But, according to the Hollywood press, Ali would not have the attention to leave the ship, and Marvel would be determined to go to the end, without rushing. We are now waiting to know which filmmaker will take over…
